Cyclone Pam devastated Vanuatu on Friday, March 13, 2015 in what could be one of the worst disasters to hit the South Pacific. The storm struck the island with the force of a Category 5 hurricane, with wind gusts reported as high as 200mph (source: CNN). It is certain that the needs among the nations churches will be substantial for some time.
We are preparing to respond by working closely with the local Church’s on Vanuatu, and equipping local leaders to help their people. The people have lost years of development progress and must now start-over after the storm destroyed most of the islands’ buildings, leaving the majority of this tiny nation homeless, and without vital food, water, and healthcare. Many of the inhabitants took shelter in their local churches. Churches that are now in dire need of sustainable support.
